The Bolton Market Place scheme, designed by Wren Architects, involves construction of a nine-screen cinema over the existing shopping centre and renovation of the existing malls.
Bolton Council gave planning approval earlier this month and Wates is now set to move on site with the next few weeks.
Wates will also restore the Victorian vaults under the shopping centre to create new restaurant, bar and retail spaces. Construction is expected to be complete by spring 2015 following a 44-week build programme.
