The machines are three of the new EC27C models and the last of the B series EC15B. It has also bought a Volvo DD14 tandem roller.

The hire company has had Volvo minis in its fleet for 10 years and has been satisfied with both performance and ease of maintenance, said proprietor Darran Mellish.

West Coast Tool & Plant offers its compact excavator for hire with Engcon tiltrotators to improve the manoeuvrability of attachments. “The added investment we’ve made with the Engcon attachments gives us a specialist edge in offering the equipment for self drive hire as well as our own contracting division,” said Mr Mellish.

The EC27C replaces the previous EC25 and EC30 models in the Volvo range. Powered by a Volvo 1.6 litre low emission Tier III the machine has a performance comparable to the old EC30 but at a size nearer to the EC25.

The right joystick control lever has an electronically proportional roller to allow the operator to adjust hydraulic flow as needed. This gives faster and smoother simultaneous control of slew and offset. All hydraulic functions are independent for more control and less delay when handling multiple tasks. An automatic two-speed travel system engages when operating in high speed mode, automatically shifting gear from high to low according to the travel load.

Another feature for increased efficiency is the standard auto-idling system that lowers engine speed to idle if a control is not used for five seconds. The engine reverts to the pre-selected speed almost instantly when any control is moved. This system delivers lower fuel consumption, longer engine life and less environmental noise.
