Construction of the Steve Bull Stand, on the east side of the ground, had previously been scheduled to start in the summer at the end of the current season and be finished by August 2014.
Instead the club, which is owned by Steve morgan, chairman of housebuilder Redrow, is putting £6m into the development of a new training ground and academy to achieve the Category 1 Premier League Academy Status.
Chief executive Jez Moxey said: “The stadium redevelopment was always to be constructed in phases, each to be taken on its merits at the time. The board felt that if we didn’t proceed with the academy redevelopment we would never be able to revisit it, whereas the stadium was always planned to be a long-term project.
Despite the postponement of the new stand, advanced enabling works, including the diversion of utilities and construction of a new electricity substation, have been commissioned anyway. This way, when the stand does go ahead, it can move forward more quickly.
Construction of the new Stan Cullis stand is also continuing at Molineux, however, by Buckingham Group, with completion on course for the start of next season.
