Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary and Thames Valley Police Joint Operations Unit (JOU) firearms Unit invite suitable organisations to tender for the Forces Ballistic Body Armour Contract.

Most Police Officers in Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary and Thames Valley Police do not routinely carry firearms. Where firearms support is needed, it is carried out by specially trained and accredited Firearms Officers known as Authorised Firearms Officers (AFOs). An Authorised Firearms Officer (AFO) is a Police Officer who has been selected, trained, accredited, and authorised by a Chief Officer to carry a firearm operationally. The JOU currently have approximately 350 AFO's across the two Forces, these include Rifle Officers, Armed Response Vehicle Officer, and the Close Protection Group.

II.2.4) Description of the procurement

Hampshire and the Isle of Wight Constabulary and Thames Valley Police JOU are seeking new light weight Ballistic Body Armour that is fit for purpose for the day-to-day role of the Armed Response Officers across the JOU. The priority being to ensure that female officers are at the forefront of this procurement as typically the Ballistic Body Armour is designed and tested around the male body. The JOU are seeking to future proof their officers with light- weight 2017 standard Ballistic Body Armour that will assist in eliminating contributing factors to any injuries, equality, and inclusion for all officers.
