Balfour Beatty Ground Engineering (BBGE) designs and constructs foundations for all types of buildings, structures and civil engineering works. Our wide range of piling techniques include rotary bored, CFA, driven (precast and steel tube) and mini, plus piling for retaining walls (Contiguous, secant and king post). In addition we carry out diaphragm walling and a range of ground improvement systems including Vibro stone columns, Vibro Concrete Columns, Dynamic compaction and Pencol Rigid Inclusions. We also offer ground beams for house foundation packages.

BBGE really stands out from the crowd for its ability to offer the widest range of foundation solutions available in the UK. BBGE was formed in 2010 as a result of acquisitions of the leading geotechnical specialists in their fields: Stent (Piling), Pennine (Ground Improvement) and Branlow (Mini piling). The testing services company, Testal, has also been incorporated into the BBGE group allowing us to offer noise, vibration, air quality and sound monitoring, as well as working platform testing and pile testing.

A strong culture of innovation through Research and Development allows BBGE to stay ahead of the competition. We are the first company in the UK to have introduced 360 vision cameras to our full fleet of rigs, plus we have developed a new precast pile cutter system that has the potential to reduced precast pile waste to zero. We have also been at the forefront of utilising geothermal piles (including geothermal precast piles) using the heat energy from groundwater to help heat and cool buildings. All our systems are energy rated to allow customers to compare Sustainability benefits of using each system we offer.
