There is an exciting opportunity to join Bellway, one of the UK’s largest house builders. Our Building Safety Division, located in Dartford, has been established to rectify possible fire safety issues in the historic Bellway Homes portfolio nationally. The Role We are looking to recruit a Technical Manager who will support the Technical Director in the management and overseeing of technical matters across multiple building safety projects from conception to completion. Ensuring day-to-day activities and tasks are delivered accurately and on time. Candidates should note that this opportunity is not for a new house build division. Principal accountabilities of the role include: Support the Technical Director in providing relevant reporting where required. Support, mentor and manage parts of the wider technical team. Oversee all technical aspects across multiple building safety projects of varying complexity. Manage the technical process to secure accurate and comprehensive sets of information from the outset including the tendering and appointment of project consultants. Management of technical fees budget. Ensuring planning & building regulations are obtained and conditions adhered to / discharged. Validating legal ownership of legacy buildings and obtaining necessary consents to carry out works. Managing and satisfying regulatory bodies such as Planning, Building Control, and the Fire Services where required to do so. Control and issue design information and drawings working with principal contractors, principal designers and advisory consultant teams. Liaise with the Commercial Department to ensure all relevant information is available to enable tenders & orders to be placed and technical budgets/cost to complete are accurate. Work with the site teams and principal contractors to provide support as necessary. The above list of accountabilities is not exclusive or exhaustive. The post holder will be required to undertake any such duties as may be reasonably expected. Experience, Qualifications and Skills Experience Experience working as a technical manager / similar position within a technical function - for a volume house builder is desirable Architectural/technical drawing experience Experience and exposure to high and medium-rise construction Experience and knowledge of external wall and façade designs Experience and knowledge of building regulations, Building Safety Act and current NHBC standards are desirable Experience and appreciation of fire safety guidance, regulation and standards in high-rise residential buildings Qualifications and Training Qualified to degree level or HNC/HND in a technical subject CSCS card or equivalent Current full UK driving licence Skills and Aptitude Good understanding of building techniques, materials and regulations Good knowledge of current CDM regulations Knowledge of Building Safety Act Strong communication, listening, presentation skills and excellent attention to detail Methodical, conscientious, organised and works to deliver high standards Ability to recognise problems and deal with them in a speedy and effective manner Ability to work independently as well as part of a team Ability to thrive under pressure in a fast-paced environment Ability to problem-solve and delegate effectively Proficient IT skills along with a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook) and the ability to adapt to new systems.
