Anyone who has seen the latest Bond film Skyfall, could not fail to be impressed at the action packed opening 10 minutes of the movie, with the highlight for most plant and machinery men and women being when 007 climbs aboard a specially converted Cat 320DL excavator, and rips out the back end of a train carriage with it whilst chasing another classic Bond villain. The machine, which had its cab removed from its usual position and re-installed on the right hand side for filming purposes, has virtually become as much of star as Daniel Craig himself, with much chat and discussion amongst machinery enthusiasts about the work that had to be put into the conversion. The machine itself has recently been the star attraction on the Caterpillar stand at Bauma China in Shanghai. I wonder if this machine will also make it to Bauma 2013 in Germany next year? I for one will be looking out for it in Munich.
