HSQE Manager

Job Description

BHC is one of the UKs leading Structural Steel Fabrication and Construction companies supplying and erecting fabricated steel nationwide within the UK and Ireland. We are seeking a dedicated and experienced HSQE Manager to join our team. As HSQE Manager, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the health, safety, quality, and environmental compliance of our operations. You will have the opportunity to lead and implement policies and programs that drive a culture of excellence in these areas. Working closely with all Departmental Managers, the focus of the role will be to manage Health and Safety and ensure compliance with the Company’s Health and Safety Strategy. Key responsibilities – · Managing the promotion of Health, Safety, Quality and Environment across the company. · Improve employee engagement at all levels on all Health, Safety related matters, to influence change and promote a positive pro-active culture. · Provide recommendations on how to improve Health & Safety, developing an annual improvement plan. · Develop, implement, and manage health, safety, quality, and environmental policies and procedures. · Carryout audits to ensure that all operations comply with relevant legislation, company guidelines, standards, and procedures. · Ensure effective risk assessments and safe working procedures are in place for all Company activities. · Follow company procedures for reporting and responding to accidents and dangerous occurrences, to ensure compliance with statutory requirements, and implementing effective corrective action. · To carryout site inspections, audits, and toolbox talks as and when required. · To assist with third parties as required, including local councils, HSE and the Environment agency. · Supporting Departmental Managers in implementing changes through the guidance and training of staff. · Will assist in maintaining company accreditations such as CHAS, ISO 9001. · Collaborate with department heads to assess training needs and develop solutions. · Facilitate training of personnel on Health & Safety related matters to ensure they are informed and act responsibly to protect both themselves and others. · To assist in the investigation of all accidents and near misses, to ensure all documentation is updated and corrective action taken as appropriate. · Proactively encourage the reporting of near misses, unsafe acts, and unsafe conditions to drive responsibility for improvement to all employees. · Maintain records of safety audits and inspections, accidents and incidents and make recommendations for improvement. Qualifications · Degree in a relevant field (e.g., Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Quality Management). · NEBOSH general certification essential · IOSH certification desirable · Minimum of 5 years of experience in HSQE management, preferably within the Construction Industry · In-depth knowledge of relevant regulations and industry standards. · Strong leadership and communication skills. · Analytical mindset with the ability to identify and mitigate risks. · Proficiency in MS Office The successful applicant will have a hands-on approach to guiding and encouraging others to carry out their roles correctly. A flexible attitude to working hours will be required and experience of a Manufacturing/ Fabrication facility is desirable. The ability to work under pressure and have confidence in their decision making. Be able to demonstrate excellent problem- solving skills, possess good inter-personal skills, and be able to prioritise a demanding and varied workload. Excellent planning, organisational, and time management skills are essential. The successful applicant will be an excellent communicator at all levels, with a pro-active and pragmatic approach to work. Site visits will also be required therefore a Driving Licence, and CSCS Card are essential. Location – Carnwath, South Lanarkshire - Scotland
